Same Sex Weddings

I am thrilled that same-sex weddings are now legal in Illinois!  Illinois is the sixteenth state to legalize gay and lesbian marriage.  I have always been supportive of same-sex commitment ceremonies; in fact, I have been performing them for over a decade—long before civil unions were even legal.  I am proud to continue to celebrate them now that they are recognized by our state.  I am sensitive to and respectful of the unique concerns of same-sex weddings.  I will work with you to create a distinctive ceremony that has everyone saying, “That wedding was so you!”

If your home state does not recognize same-sex marriage and you will be traveling to Illinois to be wed, here are some things you should know:

  • You must obtain a wedding license from the county in which you will be married.  Visit the clerk of court’s website for that county to see what you will need to bring with you to get your license as it varies from county to county
  • You can get your license up to sixty days in advance and must obtain it at least one day before your ceremony
  •  I will file the paperwork with the county, but they will not automatically send you the marriage certificate.  You must request it and there is a fee.  Check the clerk of court’s website to find out how—there are typically numerous ways to obtain copies

We are so thankful that our life path’s crossed with Rev. Toni’s. We had no idea as to how we were going to select an officiant for our civil union. However, when we saw REv. Toni’s picture on her website, her spirit shined through so brilliantly. We knew she was the one!

Rev. Toni guided us in the selection of our vows with patience and grace. Our ceremony was such an intimate and sacred ceremony. We believe that Rev. Toni made all the difference in the world.

Best wishes,
